Two undergraduate courses of the College of Basic Medical Sciences (CBMS), Pathology and Pathophysiology, have been recognized by the Ministry of Education as the first batch of National Level First Class Undergraduate Modules according to the recent Notice of the Ministry of Education on the Results of the First Batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Modules.

Pathology, developed by Professor Li Yulin, a national star teacher, was incorporated into the first batch of national quality online open courses in 2017. Based on a modern teaching concept centering on students, Pathology neatly integrates rich offline teaching resources with excellent online resources by giving full play to the information-rich and flexible characteristics of online courses in breaking time and space barriers while maintaining the highly improvised, interactive and communicative elements of offline classroom teaching. By doing so, Professor Li has explored the innovative intelligence + educationmodel which encourage students’ deep and critical thinking. His three-stage creative online teaching model developed during the COVID-19 outbreak, integrating Live Lectures, Self-study and Evaluation, achieved a satisfaction rate of more than 99% from students.

Pathophysiology, developed by Professor Sun Liankun, a star teacher in Jilin province, follows the law of medical education and the cultivation of medical talents with a student-centered and result-oriented approach. For this reason, the course restructures the teaching contents by neatly integrating scientific research and humanistic ideological and political elements with professional courses and adopts a new teaching model integrating “knowledge, ability, and quality” with “inquiry-based creative problem-solving as the core. By doing so, a problem-oriented pathophysiology course that highlights the standards of being high-level, innovative, and challenging, has been established to cultivate high-level medical talents with an ability to solve complex problems and think critically, These talents are suitable for the development of Chinas medical and health industry and will enhance its capability, quality, and international competitiveness of medical and health services.

True to our original aspiration of educating people and committed to the core goal of cultivating top-tired talents and substantive development, the SBMS has developed distinctively high-quality and influential courses led by famous teachers. In the future, we will strive to build first-class online and offline hybrid first-class courses and first-class virtual simulation experiment teaching courses.
