College of Basic Medical Sciences attended international seminar held by Russian Bashkir State Medical University

On October 22, 2021, Prof. Li Fan and Prof. Wang Fang from the College of Basic Medical Sciences were invited to attend an international academic seminar on“Infectious Diseases as an Interdisciplinary Problem: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”hosted by Bashkir State Medical University, Russia. More than 300 medical experts and scientists from Russia, Germany and China participated online. Professor Li Fan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, expressing the hope that through this conference, participating universities and organizations will deepen and further cooperation in health emergency response, prevention and control of infectious and chronic diseases, etc.,strengthen mechanisms for information sharing, detection, joint prevention and control, and response to major infectious diseases, enhance coordination and cooperation in response to health emergencies and safeguard regional health security. Professor Fang Wang presented a report online entitled “Therole of cytokine storms in COVID-19”. Relating to the cutting-edge knowledge of medical microbiology and immunology, he explained the occurrence and development of COVID-19. As the pandemic continues to rage around the world, a better understanding of it based on research findings from around the world will be of great help in combating the pandemic. The conference also provided a systematic presentation of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases around the world. Professor Pavlov Valentin Nikolaevich, President of Bashkir State Medical University and Academician Yang Baofeng of Harbin Medical University attended the conference.

As the leader of thediscipline“Human-animal Shared Medicine”at Jilin University, Professor Li Fan has made important contributions to the early diagnosis and early warning of infectious diseases and tumors. He has won two provincial first prizes on science and technology and a second prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award. Wang Fang is a professor at the Department of Pathophysiology, College of Basic Medical Sciences. He also acts as the Director of Jilin Provincial Key Laboratory of Precision Infectious Diseases. He has been engaged in the research on the pathogenesis of respiratory diseases for many years and was recommended by Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Department as an advanced individual in the national science and technology professionals against COVID-19. The college will take this symposium as an opportunity to maintain academic communication with researchers from all over the world, and work together to learn about and respond to infectious diseases.
